About Exeter Bird Rescue

I recently retired from the RSPB and my last role was at the Darts Farm Nature Reserve. However, my love for wild birds has motivated me to take injured birds and help them return to the wild.

Through my experience of dealing with wild birds at my time at the Darts Farm Nature Reserve, I have built excellent nursing skills and experience to allow me to rehabiltate injured birds with an aim to return them back to the wild if possible. I have built contacts with local Exeter vets who have the more medical skills if needed.

I've worked with all types of wild birds from pigeons, crows, small garden birds right through to seagulls. I have some facilities such as incubators etc in my garden shed to help in this work.

If you've found an abandoned young bird then please observe it for two to three hours to see if the parents return to take care of it, it is very common for this to happen. If the bird is in an unsafe location such as in the road then please move to somewhere close but near by. If the parents do not return after two/three hours then please contact us for further advice. If the bird is obviously injured then please bring it into us and make a careful note of the location - re-wilding birds is often more successful if returned to the same location after rehabilitation.
